1st annual Clonetopia powered by CANNA breaks records, blazes a new trail
Including the sale of the most expensive clone in the history of adult-use dispensary sales
RICHMOND, CALIFORNIA—The future happened here in California first—again.
Hundreds of growers big and small from all over the country brought their friends and family to the wildly successful first annual Clonetopia powered by CANNA Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17 at 7 Stars in Richmond, California and Solful in San Francisco.
The event included sales of the most expensive clone in the legal market history, experts reported, plus hundreds of cuts of superb new and classic strains.
Clonetopia powered by CANNA began with lines to the sidewalk, store rooms overflowing with live plants, and a logistical crush. The production team from David Downs Presents, 7 Stars, and Exit Now hosted a singular, intimate reception in an art gallery next door to the dispensary where nurseries and nutrient brands met their audience and learned from each other.

Timed to the peak of the consumer clone-buying season, the event celebrated the nourishing yet still radical act of cannabis gardening. Over the past 80 years, the federal war on weed has altered the life courses of millions of Americans caught with even a seed, and traumatized and scared many millions more. Voters legalized growing six plants per property in California in 2016—part of a wave of liberalization that is sweeping the globe. California also remains the global plug for the best genetics, and the event upgraded growers big and small.
Top sellers included:
- Several $1,566 Tire Fire OG cuts from Hendrx Nursery
- A $1,000 Tom Hill Haze breeder pack of three phenos from Haze Valley Nursery
- Also, $500 Habibis (Z x Moroccan Peaches) from Purple City Genetics.

7 Stars sold out of strains like Talking Trees GDP x Urkle, and Haze Valley Nursery’s selection of Bodhi Seeds’ Strawberry Headband, Modified Mule, Kosher Kush, and much more.
Folks hit their daily limit of six plants and returned the following day with family members in tow.
Bay Area cannabis luminaries and pioneers came through, like celebrity horticulture author Ed Rosenthal, Harborside Health Center founder Steve DeAngelo, modern breeder Xeno Seed Co, and podcaster/grower James Loud.
Vital Garden Supply and Ring Organic sold gardening supplies and helped folk up-pot. Grow it from Home‘s Penny Barthal taught a gardening class, and Xeno Seed Co taught a breeding class. Jake from Exit Now art gallery helped run a tye-dye class.

Clonetopia powered by CANNA contributed to a newly invigorated cannabis ecosystem that also included Budist releasing their 2025 Harvest Report in Berkeley Saturday, as well as Wavey Gravey’s birthday party, and a women in cannabis event in San Francisco.
Clonetopia powered by CANNA hit over 300 RSVPs from over 150 original emails and drew guests from Hawaii, Oregon, Colorado, and all across California. Some folks drove up from San Diego.
On opening day at 7 Stars, clones claimed eight of the top 10 slots for best selling dispensary products for the day. No plant had ever ranked in the top 10 best-sellers list of the day in 7 Stars’ decades-long history.
Coming up for our thriving canna-ecosystem: the California State Fair Cannabis Awards in July, as well as the 3rd annual SF Hash Week July 7-13.
Clonetopia will return September 19 and 20, and we’ll host the 3rd annual Terpnami seed show on December 4-5. More info to come. Give us your email to get invited to our next event.
